Hope everyone is off to a great start this week! I know I am! This past week I received my new Hamilton Beach Smoothie Blender and have been on a major smoothie kick. I have had a smoothie every day for a week now…sometimes 2 a day. I went three days last week without ANY soda at all (other days only 1 12 oz can a day)and honestly it just doesn’t taste that great to me anymore.
I bought this Green Superfood stuff to put into my smoothies over the weekend. Today was the first day I tried it. It wasn’t bad…but it wasn’t great either! I mixed it with some vanilla almond milk, strawberries and bananas and it did taste like orange at first but then you get the grassy aftertaste…still not that bad. The worst part about it was the color. It was DARK army green and really made me think twice about drinking it. I am glad that I did however because I do feel like a have a little more energy than I normally would and I know that I am getting my recommended 5 to 9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables all in one drink!
• Naturally detoxifies and boosts your immune system
• Probiotics and Enzymes to aid digestion and absorption
One of my favorite smoothies from the weekend was my orange smoothie with cherries on top!
Besides all my smoothie maddness that has been happeneing I also did a lot of relaxing with my honey and our babies.
Hope everyone had a great weekend, I have a very busy week ahead of me at work. Time to get to it!
EDIT: I forgot to add how EXCITED i am that one of my favorite shows is finally back! Hemlock Grove. EVEN BETTER than last season! Roman (picture below) is my fav character, he is even crazier and creepier this season. ❤
I am slow moving today. I wished I could have stayed in bed, however I am up and been at work for 2 hours already…7 more to go. We have volunteers coming today to make homemade play-doh for the children and to process some clothes! Also I am going to start walking/jogging laps in the gymnasium today on my lunch break. I may not be doing much of the jogging today but I will do my best.
Last night for my celebratory dinner we just ordered takeout. I never knew that you could order Chilis for delivery! Thanks Grubhub.com. We ordered the two can dine for $20, Jason got Chicken Fajitas and I got the Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers. It was too much food! I guess that was our splurge day for the week!
Until next time…have a great day!
Vogel Alcove Parade
Happy Monday everyone!
Today I officially started working FULL TIME at my job. I was so used to getting off work at 1230 every day and going home and being lazy! Now I am working until 430 every day and I HAVE to take an hour lunch break. Today’s lunch break was VERY boring. I think I will bring some work out clothes and jog laps in our gym a few days out of the week during that time. No excuse not to!
Tonight we are going to have a celebratory dinner for my going full time. Still trying to decide where to go. I will share later in the week the details!
I posted last Monday that we were changing our eating habits and I was backing off of soda. It is going great! I only drink ONE 12 oz can of soda each day and I actually went all of Saturday and Sunday without ANY soda at all! I had lost 4 lbs by last Friday and was so afraid I would gain it all back over the holiday weekend. I was able to maintain! GO ME! My husband Jason has been eating mainly meat, nuts and brown rice and he has lost 10 lbs since July 1st I am very proud of him.
Fourth of July festivities at work last Thursday were a blast and all the children had so much fun! Thanks to Dallas Heritage Village for letting us use your grounds for a HUGE (compared to what we normally would have had) parade and watermelon picnic. Also thanks for giving the children carriage rides and having games set up for them to play! Above are some photos from this wonderful day.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
After a several month hiatus from WordPress…not intentionally I am officially back! I have been working my bottom off at Vogel Alcove and proving myself to be worthy of full time and all my hard work has finally paid off! As of today I am a full time employee! I have taken on many random task over the past several months and cant wait to work even more! Not many people can say that on a Monday morning they are excited to be going to work…I can. Instead of writing out a long blog about everything that has happened over the last months I will highlight some of the important stuff.
- End of the year holidays were fantastic!
- Jason and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary on 01/29
- We celebrated Jason’s birthday on 2/18
- In April our Non-Profit moved from a very small location that we had been at for 15 years to our new facility which was an old 3 story elementary school in DISD. Dallas Morning News Story
- Jason bought me a Samsung NX300 camera for my birthday which we celebrated on 5/18 (over $1000 worth of camera, lenses, bag etc and we got it for $250! Was only used a couple of weeks by a photography student)
- I have officially become the Vogel Alcove Photographer, taking photos of all the volunteers that come to visit, field trips, special events and birthdays!
- I have continued to struggle with my health and weight. Started a new healthy eating plan with a daily food diary and work out routine yesterday. I actually have Jason on board with me! Wish us luck!
I promise to post at least once a week from now on! I will leave you with a recipe I threw together from dinner last night. Enjoy!
- 6 cups fresh Kale
- 2 cups frozen Butternut Squash cubed
- 1/2 bag of frozen corn Corn
- 1 can of Chickpeas drained
- coconut oil
- red chili pepper flakes
- salt and pepper
- Preheat oven to 450
- Toss the chickpeas and squash with some melted coconut oil (just enough to lightly coat) and sprinkle with salt, pepper and chili flakes.
- Spread out the mixture on a cookie sheet and back for about 25 min or longer if you desire more crispy veggies.
- In a large pot add couple tsp coconut oil and the corn.
- Fry lightly for a few minutes then toss in the kale.
- Cook for about 5 min tossing often so that the kale does not start to burn.
- Peel and dice one large avocado.
- Once everything is done place ALL ingredients into a large bowl and toss it gently so that you do not mash the avocado.
- Serve and ENJOY
It has been exactly TWO MONTHS since I last blogged! WTH? It has been a roller coaster two months at that!
July, not a whole lot was happening…normal daily routine. Trying to stay active…eat healthy…blah blah blah.
THEN August happened. Jason (hubby) fell and broke his elbow, dislocated his shoulder and cracked his shoulder blade! Luckily I was able to take a few days off to take care of him. He couldn’t eat, drink or shower alone. *Grown men are bigger babies than babies when in pain* but I LOVE him gosh darn-it so I put on my big girl panties and took care of my man. 🙂
Also in August I had my first actual vacation. Didn’t go anywhere or do anything but it was nice to just relax.
As far as my healthy goals in life….I am sad to say it but It kind of all fell apart this month. I am still eating healthy food choices however it is just mixed in with bad ones! I have had so many sodas the last month I cant even count. I gained about 5lbs this month 😦 I WILL get back on track though!!!!!
My hair has grown so much and it is out of control! I have had a inner battle with myself for the last month on weather or not to cut my hair.
I also found an awesome store thanks to my bestie Allison! It is called DD’s and they have super cute stuff…kinda like a Ross Dress for Less but CHEAPER!
I got this cute outfit (Jeans, Tank and Skull tee) for under 20$
With my vacation time and down time caring for Jason, I have been working on some crafts and sold a few items! Today I finally got my Facebook Business page up and running so be sure to go check it out! https://www.facebook.com/ashleyscraftygiftshoppe
September WILL be a better month. It has to be! Holidays are fast approaching and work life is going to get a little crazy but I promise to keep blogging every chance i get!
Where has this year gone! Cannot believe it is July already!
I haven’t posted anything in about a month for many reasons. I have been really busy with work and or not really feeling it lately. I’ve had a lot of pain in my back and hips this past month. Gone to a lot of doctors, had a lot of blood taken, got x-rays and MRI’s done. Hoping and praying that something is figured out within the next couple weeks as to why I hurt so much and so often. Doctor put me off work for a week and I laughed at him and said that’s not happening! So instead he put me on light duty/no lifting/no bending and with limited walking….for TWO WEEKS. that lasted about 2 days here at my job. My job duties require a lot of heavy lifting, dragging, bending, climbing, walking….a lot of walking! Also they just added new duties to my daily work that requires even more heavy lifting etc.
So I am kind of stuck between listening to the doctor and taking the risk of losing hours at work or listening to my job and having constant pain. Its a pretty shitty choice to have to make. So here I am…at work (on break)…in pain. OH and I am not allowed to take any medication while I am on the clock either!
SOOO glad that this week is only a three day week!
Ok…lets change the subject. I am holding steady at my weight which I guess isn’t so bad, at least I am not gaining! I have been eating pretty good foods. Everything grilled, steamed or baked…not a lot of fast food and haven’t got to eat out since my birthday. So if my dang body would stop hurting and let me get out and do more maybe the lbs would start to come off again. Right now it is a major deal and drains so much to get out and do anything or to do things around the house. All I want to do is lay on the couch and watch movies 😦 I did change my hair color and got me some bangs….
Something great has happened! My wonderful hubby got an amazing job last week. Today is his first day. He is a salesman at heart and I am so overly excited that he is finally back in the business! He is working for a company called CORESPACE. This is amazing for our financial situation and I know he will do great things for the company. I love him SO much!
Here is a picture of my beautiful baby girls…
Well, lunch break is almost over. I will blog more later.
Its Friday…need I say any more? Ok, so am I done here?…..
OK OK I guess ill blog for real!
As you can tell I am pretty excited Friday has arrived. I have nothing awesome planned for the weekend….not that I have any money to do anything even if I did! However, sometimes doing absolutely nothing can be pretty awesome in itself. I have been sleeping horrible past couple nights because cats fighting outside my window or a injured raccoon dragging its hind legs making its way across my back yard. In both cases it is absolutely driving my dogs bonkers and making them pace back and forth from front door to back door…ALL NIGHT….on hard wood floors. 😦
Anyway…on to something positive!
I am becoming slightly obsessed with jars (Kerr and Ball) all sizes. I am using them as storage for spices, dry pantry items and as gifts! Below is a picture of some of my jars.
I just printed off a lot of really cute labels for the lids and will be modge podgeing them this weekend. I will upload pictures when done.
This is an example of the gifts I will be doing for people. Recently at work we made 150 cookies in a jar, 150 strawberry shortcakes in a jar and 150 salad in a jar! That is where my obsession began!
Last night I downloaded a new app on my phone called “Noom Weight Loss Coach”. It allows you to keep track of your food intake/calories, motivates you to do different task each day and teaches you how to eat healthier. There is also a forum on the app an a lot of people post great workouts and recipes. I think the best part about the app is that it has a pedometer! I have downloaded pedometers before and they just don’t work that well. This one so far is amazing! It keeps track of your steps even when your phone is timed out. So far this morning I have walked 1013 steps and counting.
So about this weekend…I plan on sleeping….A LOT!
WOW…..I haven’t posted anything in over a week! Last blog I had mentioned that my hips were bothering me and that was just the beginning. I ended up going to Baylor ER that night because I couldn’t even get up and down out of my chair without crying. They gave me morphine while I was there and sent me home with the highest powered steroid to help with all of the inflammation, pain meds and muscle relaxers! The rest of the week and weekend I spent in bed or hobbling around the house as much as my body would allow. I did watch a lot of movies and Netflix while I was down. I finished all 6 seasons of DOCTOR WHO finally which is sad…I have to wait till November for season 7 to be on Netflix now! I also watched “Oz the Great and Powerful” IT WAS AWESOME! I had heard a lot of negative reviews but I absolutely adored it and will be watching it again!
Lola worrying about her Mamma!!!
Haven’t really been eating too healthy, just what’s convenient. So as far as my healthy eating plan…its gone off course a little. Positive thing is that I haven’t gained any weight. I cannot wait until my body is back at 100% and I can get back to my mission.
Homemade Pork Potato and Onion Tacos on Corn Tortillas
Baked Sweet Potato with bbq ranch, onions and cheese on top. Side salad and rolls.
This week back at work has been busy! So much for easing myself back into routine. Getting ready for summer projects and volunteer groups. If you are interested in helping in any way please visit www.vogelalcove.org
Now that everyone knows I’m still alive and kicking I will attempt to get back on a regular blogging schedule.
Well not really.
Just a quick background on my health. I suffer from fibromyalgia and chronic pain and chronic inflammation in my hips. Since Friday I have had some pretty bad flare ups so I really didn’t do too much. Tried to get out and do stuff to keep my mobility going good but it just seemed to make things worse. I missed work yesterday (thank god for paid time off) I came back to work today and was completely humiliated when I went to get on and off the buses and had such a difficult time! I arrived at work in tears. I am too damn young to feel this damn old!
Aside from the above…I have been doing great on my eating habits and I also downloaded an app to remind me to drink water! It says I should be drinking 119oz a day. I was drinking apx 20oz a day….that is scary. I am now up to 75-100oz a day thanks to the reminders. I have practiced my hoop as much as my body would allow…got a few new bruises.
Below is a pictorial of my meals over the past few days. Forgot to bring my usb so no pictures today! I will leave you with a pic of my super cute baby girl Lola however!
(lola bug @ park)
PIZZA!! One of our favorite meals. I am so glad that I have a talent for making it homemade/semi-homemade. Yes…every once in a while that greasy super fattening carb loaded delivery pizza is ok. However once you taste my pizza, you will wonder why all these years you have been stuffing your faces and paying high prices and deliver fees for something you too can make at home!
“Why do we ever order delivery when your pizza is this good?!?!?” -quote from a happy husband
So I usually make my own crust, however last night I was in a hurry so I opted for Pillsbury can crust. I must say that it was the best texture of any store bought crust I have ever purchased. I of course rubbed it down with some EVOO and oregano and garlic for flavor 🙂
Toppings were a great variety of fresh veggies, Boca meatless crumbles and homemade sauce! Below you will find a complete list of ingredients and directions.
On and off yesterday (I was very determined) I practiced my hula hoop. I FINALY was able to keep it going for about 20sec! I was so proud I had to give myself a high five. My sides are a little sore this morning but “NO PAIN…NO GAIN”
Today I came in an hour early in hopes of getting off an hour early….not happening…actually staying 30 min late! Oh well thank god for three day weekends. Speaking of three day weekends, hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday! We will be finding somewhere to swim at some point. Also on the agenda is a bbq picnic with our two wonderful pups and trying out this coffee shop on lower Greenville, they are now carrying HYPNOTIC DONUTS!
As mentioned above here is a grocery list of items for my semi-homemade pizza:
Bake crust as directed and rub down with EVOO, garlic and oregano.
Mix tomato paste with water, crushed cherry tomatoes, basil, garlic, salt and crushed red peppers.
Apply sauce to crust.
Bake for an additional 30min or until crust is golden and pizza is bubbly!!
