Been a while….

WOW…..I haven’t posted anything in over a week! Last blog I had mentioned that my hips were bothering me and that was just the beginning. I ended up going to Baylor ER that night because I couldn’t even get up and down out of my chair without crying. They gave me morphine while I was there and sent me home with the highest powered steroid to help with all of the inflammation, pain meds and muscle relaxers! The rest of the week and weekend I spent in bed or hobbling around the house as much as my body would allow. I did watch a lot of movies and Netflix while I was down. I finished all 6 seasons of DOCTOR WHO finally which is sad…I have to wait till November for season 7 to be on Netflix now! I also watched “Oz the Great and Powerful” IT WAS AWESOME! I had heard a lot of negative reviews but I absolutely adored it and will be watching it again!

Haven’t really been eating too healthy, just what’s convenient. So as far as my healthy eating plan…its gone off course a little. Positive thing is that I haven’t gained any weight. I cannot wait until my body is back at 100% and I can get back to my mission.

This week back at work has been busy! So much for easing myself back into routine. Getting ready for summer projects and volunteer groups. If you are interested in helping in any way please visit

Now that everyone knows I’m still alive and kicking I will attempt to get back on a regular blogging schedule.

Good Day~

Grill Time!

Good morning…yesterday was a great day! My HOOP came in….and I am HORRIABLE at it but I am learning so its all good 🙂

My friend Crystal took me out to lunch at Maracas in Deep Ellum and I had the best potato enchiladas ever. (THANKS CRYSTAL) It was whipped potatoes with cilantro and cheese with a chipotle cream sauce on top.  DELISH!

Decided to walk off all the food I had just eaten so Jason and I walked to Ace Hardware to get a few things. We have a little camping propane grill that we have never used and decided it was about time! Two propane tanks for 5.99….cant beat that.

Last night we made slider burgers, dogs and quinoa salad. Hung out with neighbors and enjoyed the wonderful summer (in spring) weather!

I practiced my hoop on and off throughout the evening and one time I was actually able to keep it going for about 6 rounds…then it fell on my big toe! ( this hoop may only weigh three pounds but that is a lot when slammed on your toes!) I will defiantly be wearing shoes from now on when I hoop.

Below are pictures and a quick description of our bbq menu items from last nights cook out. Many more to come now that we busted out the grill!

long weekend….

Hey…whats going on world? It has been a long and busy weekend for me!

Friday was pretty relaxing, plus I still wasn’t feeling too well. My honey and I got the movie “This is Forty” from Redbox and it was HILARIOUS!!!! It was totally us except the roles were reversed! Then I got Netflix and stayed up until 2am watching stuff! It may have been a bad idea.

Saturday was a blast..until it wasn’t. HA! We had plans to do A LOT of things that were going on around our area (Earth Day Dallas, Taco Festival, Deep Ellum Art Walk…) Well Jason, my fiance, used to DJ and the record store two blocks over was having a “National Record Store Day Festival” So we went to check that out first and found out that if you purchase a $5 souvenir cup you get to drink beer for FREE….ALL DAY….come and go as you please!

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA Getting the party started

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA Awesome local band Bashe (beige)

We were there on and off from 10am until 830pm so pretty much the rest of the day was out the window. It was a lot of fun and there were SO many great bands performing, they were giving away band stickers and posters and tees for free, there were food trucks out there…but you can only handle so much…but I can only handle so much! Called it a night so I was prepared for SUNDAY.

So today I had to go into work from 830am until noon. We had about 20 volunteers from Fellowship Church Dallas come and pull weed, plant flowers and mulch the entire playground. We worked so hard and even endured pulling up POISON IVY! Which is scary because it was on the PLAYGROUND!

The rest of the day has been really relaxing…watching my obsession on Netflix “DR WHO” and cooking dinner. Thought I would be a little creative in the kitchen today and made up a dish of my own (can’t really claim it as my own…I’m sure others have made this or something like it) Below is the recipe, it turned out DELICIOUS and they whole house smells so good!

  • 2 tbsp Organic Coconut Oil
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • Sea Salt
  • Red pepper flakes
  • 1 Large Sweet Potato
  • 1 Bunch of fresh spinach
  • 1 lb ground sirloin (you could use ground turkey or chicken if you like)
  • Cooked Brown Rice

In a skillet add two tbsp coconut oil and peeled/diced sweet potato with a dash of cinnamon, red pepper flakes and a pinch of sea salt. Fry over medium high until potatoes are soft and brown color to them.

Add in the fresh spinach and cover so it can wilt down.

While it is wilting in a separate skillet brown the beef/turkey/chicken. Then drain and add to the sweet potato/spinach mixture.

Serve with brown rice on the side and ENJOY!

Good day~

Sun is setting and it defiantly made an impact on me today….i am beet red! Good thing with me though is that I will be nice and brown by morning. I always tan well.

Today has been a great day. Woke up and got ready to do a family photo shoot at Dallas Fair Park, The Smith family were an awesome group! We got a good hour in of amazing photos.

Once I got home I put on my sundress and grabbed my honey to head out on a neighborhood stroll. On our walk we found a neat coat rack, a vintage mail/key holder and cool black coffee table with glass top that people were throwing out!! I love curb side finds…and we needed a coffee table really bad!

The rest of the day I spent outside with my doggies sipping on some sweet tea or inside editing the photos from today’s shoot. Tonight we will be going down the street to Zubar to see a friend spin 🙂

I know thins has been kind of a random blog! I will leave you with my favorite photo from today…

weight loss…

GOOD MORNING! Headache is gone. Also I weighed in this morning and I have lost 2lbs 3oz this week so far! I am very proud of myself. Dinner last night was amazing. I made a Boca Chicken BLT Salad. Second picture is of my dinner the night before that I promised. 🙂

This morning on the bus, there was a new driver and he was very rude to everyone! If you don’t like your job QUIT! I also realized something this morning on my way to work. On the corner of Elm and Akard (every morning) is this guy who works for “Dallas Street Zine” a local paper. He is what puts a smile on my face every morning! He is SOO happy no matter what the weather conditions are, out there dancing, doing the running man and all covered with pigeons!!! The Dallas birds LOVE this man! He gets out in front of the bus and will serenade us and just bring such a positive moment to our (or at least mine) mornings!  Well this past week he hasn’t been there!!! I wonder if he moved locations downtown or if he quit. Either way I would like to thank him for making me smile daily.

So, its Friday and I am ready for this work week to be over with! I am ready to sit out in the back yard with my dogs with a big glass of iced tea and soak up some sun!

Hope everyone has a great Friday.

Good day~

Morning…not going to say “good”morning because nothing is good about the headache I have from not drinking soda for the past 3 days! Maybe I shouldn’t quit cold turkey like this…maybe I can have just one 🙂

Yesterday we went to RAC (rent a center) to lease a laptop, the sales guy/manager was super rude and very inpersonable. Wasted an hour and a half of my day to find out it would be 59$ a week!!! ridiculous! Walked down the street to a pawn shop and got a laptop for $85!! Amazing! Sorry jusnt had to rant a little and brag at the smae time.

I went to Walmart later on yesterday and used some of my coupons (walmart price matches) and was able to get some pretty good deals. I also did some grocery shopping for my “healthy” dinner and lunches. Last night I had a black bean Boca Burger on a bed of romaine, tomatoes, roasted corn, red pepper flakes and drizzle of evoo. It was DELICIOUS! I took a photo but forgot to bring my camera to work today. Will update blog tomorrow. I am trying to do as much “whole food” as I can but it is hard to switch all at once. I am now just being more cautious about the pkg foods I am buying which is still going down a better path! For breakfast I am having whole wheat waffles with no syrup or butter and fresh fruit. Lunches I am having boca burgers and boca chicken patties with salads. Snacks I have greek yogurt, fruit, nuts and Kellog’s Special K protein bars and shakes. For drinks I am having tea, water and vitamin waters. I am very proud of myself and they changes I have made already.

If you go to the 7Eleven website you can sign up to receive coupons monthly and I got Kellog’s Shake for 1.99 and protein Bar for free!

Today at Vogel Alcove we are hosting a “Coffee with Kids” no…kids are not having coffee lol. We are welcoming  potential donors and volunteers to come in throughout the day to take a tour of our facilities, visit with the children of Vogel Alcove and get any questions they may have about our organization answered.

Yesterday we had a orginization called Mazies Mission here. They come once a month and bring in rescue dogs for the children to interact with and they read “dog related” books to the children for a brief story time. The children LOVE this day…except for the very  few who are terrified of dogs. This helps them get over that fear though!

Well time for me to get back to work! Hope everyone has a great day~

I’m alive…barely

What a weekend!

Woke up at 5am Friday morning to start moving. Ended up having to get a Uhaul truck. Got everything in 3 loads but it took all day because it was just me and my honey moving everything!

Our doggies had a rough weekend. My youngest, Lola woke up Friday morning throwing up over and over and over. Finally got past the vomiting and then I noticed her poor little mouth was extremly swollen on the right side! I gave her some benadryl and it helped until the medicine wore off then it swole back up! After another round of benadryl poor baby was much better.

THEN…we let them explore their new back yard and they got into a MAJOR fight 😦 Sadie punctured a hole in Lolas mouth and cut her left eye and Lola put a gash on Sadies chest! I was not very happy with them the rest of the day.

THEN…Sunday we applied a flea treatment on them in case there was fleas in the new yard and Lola decides to start rubbing her face on the ground and made her whole mouth and nose raw and bloody 😦

Aside from all the doggy drama….I ABSOLUTLY LOVE OUR NEW APARTMENT!!!!! It is so quiet and all three of the other tenants in the building are awesome and they all cook dinners for eachother and share internet and cable. Our neighborhood is super cute!

On Sunday I went and took pictures of my one of my besties and her new hubby at a nearby park! Wish it wouldnt have been so gloomy, but i did manage to get some great shots!

Well this brings me to today, back to work. I had to learn a new bus route this morning and I still managed to get to work on time!

Good day~

Poor Food Habits and Bus Rides….

Yesterday was a long day. I had plans for an awesome dinner but by the time I got home and settled in….chicken nuggets and crinkle fries it is!

I know that is a very poor food choice….I know I need to lose weight….i know these things.

Whats done is done.

To make up for it, tonight I will be making homemade Black beand and Sweet potato burritos! High fiber and Protien…low fat…just what my love handles need right now 😉

Now for a moment of “This just happened”

I was on the #26 waiting for departure and i kept hearing the sound of a soda can being opened…like three times in a row from the lady in front of me. A little curious I decided to stand up and streatch my legs. What do I see? This lady…had to be in her late 70’s early 80’s popping open beers and pouring them into a Big Glup 32oz styrafoam cup!!! She looks up at me and says with a grin on her face “What?”

This my friends….just happened.

Good Day~
